Lincoln Pro 140

I bought it from Lowe's about 3 weeks ago. I'm very satisfied so far. It's smooth, lays down a nice bead, and is doing everything I wanted. I haven't sprung for gas yet so I can't comment on its MIG capabilities, but the flux core works like a charm and doesn't leave too much splatter for the work I'm doing - everything from about 14 gauge to 1/4" so far (not single pass on the heavier stuff). Based on what I've heard/learned, you'll prolly need the gas/MIG capability if you're talking about body work, as the settings chart on the door of the unit indicates MIG for the thinner metal stock.

Thanks for the thoughts. Looks like I will go with the 140. Best buy for me will be Lowes. One question. It looks like the regulator can only be used with mix gas or pure argon. It this true?

Can't answer that. Those 2 gases will take care of my needs unless I someday get the hots to try aluminum - but that's another cylinder to buy. I'll prolly wait and see if anyone else has experience with this unit and aluminum. I've read that aluminum really needs a pull type gun to get reliable wire feed - seems like I remember the speed needed for aluminum is high enough that it could cause birdnesting using the standard push-type wire feed. According to the settings chart on the flip up door the ProMig 140 will feed wire a bunch faster than needed with ferrous wire. There's a ton of folks out there who could probably address this for both of us.
