My thoughts include "why not?" Other than a one-time expenditure of some money there are no downsides and added safety as an upside.
I too think they need to be at the torch end.
Hey e: that right-side-missing-an-arm-shirt could be just the ticket for a guy who's got a driver's tan (here in North America, that is). Walk around with it in the sun and you even out your arm tan. Bob's your uncle!
