Sorry to butt in.

Just a couple of questions.

I have just got myself a welder ( SIP Migmate 130 DP) and I was wondering if ther is a FAQ for this ng so I can understand some of what is said here ?

Can anybody recomend a good book on the basics of welding ?

I have a 48 year old Landrover so it should get plenty of use.

Regarding the book question:

I am currently enrolled in a community college welding program to improve my welding, and the text we are using is very good. It's called "Welding Skills" and it is bt R.T.Miller. We are using the 2nd edition, but the 3rd edition is now out, and it looks to be even better. I don't have the ISBN of the 3rd edition, but the 2nd edition ISBN is 0-8269-3007-7.

I bought mine from an online used book seller. If you can't find one there, a local community college bookstore may have the newer edition.

Try your local college for a welding course. They run evening classes. Could be especially useful for welding aluminium. Landrovers may need a bigger mig, especially for chassis repairs. The spring hangers and rear cross member area can be very thick. Before welding, clean the area back to bright steel. Get a good angle grinder, better still, get two. That way you always have a spare and can set one for cutting and one for grinding.

I like three. One with a grinding wheel, one with a sanding wheel, and one with a cup knot or stringer brush.

You can't have too many tools. Saves a lot of time changing wheels.

Indeed, and I would add one for a cut-off wheel.

Easy guys, I have only just got the welder. Can't wait to give it a try but I have decided to go and see an oppo of mine who does it for a living and watch him and ask lots of questions first.
