Airplane vs Heli Gyros

Maybe I looked in the wrong places, but have been unable to locate this info. When you install a Heli version gyro in a fixed wing you loose dual rate functions as the end points are set at the gyro. There is also no true "off" mode although you can set "0" gain. The aircraft versions of Futaba gyros advertise a "off" mode, does this setting in fact take the gyro out of the circuit? and will the dual rates work? Thanks Brian
