Question about measuring for wing area

Hello all-

Some guys at the field were discussing wing area and can't agree on one thing: For the purposes of measuring a wing for SSC, does one measure the wing with or without the ailerons to achieve the necessary 400 square inches?

One measures with the ailerons, since they are a part of the wing. :) Dr.1 Driver "There's a Hun in the sun!"

Wing area is almost universally measured as span times average chord including any control surfaces.

Area includes the ailerons and that portion of the wing passing through the fuselage. i.e., 50" tip to tip and an average chord including ailerons of 8" equals 400 sq.".
