Re: Servo jitters?

How old is it? Hitec is real good about replacing products that fail prematurely.

If it is old, just take the case apart and clean out the pot with some contact cleaner. That should extend its life a bit.

It's a HS55 micro, not real

Sounds like it, or the IC on the board gone bad. I'd trash it either way. Usually the feedback pot is sealed, and if it isn't, all you can do is spray it with cleaner and work it. All that does is move the dirt to a different spot, to surface again in the future. If it's the IC, it'll cost more than it's worth to send off and get repaired. There are many reasons why jitters develop and all small light weight servos can be easily damaged if there is any binding in the control rods/surfaces or if screwed down so tight that there is no vibration damping provided by the rubber grommets or rubber mounting tape. A common problem with small servos is with an incorrectly aligned pushrod being to tight a fit in the control horn and exerting a twisting force on the horn, this puts a strain on the whole unit leading to premature failure..

Hitec provides very good fixes for all servos on their web page =

I sent Mike Mayberry a rx from a two meter electric that had folded the wing in flight. The resulting lawn dart had the rx splattered by the 7 cell battery pack when it "landed"..

Hitec did not repair or replace my Rx... Rather, they nailed its remains to to the shop wall to ward off evil spirits...

Thats true. I forgot. And a nearly exahusted rx pack will show similar.

If its on a servo extender, replace that, otherwise clean up the plug contacts, and if it doesn't fix it, trash it or send it back.

Standard Hitec problem - premature wear of pot. Cure: bend the pot wiper so that it tracks *next* to the worn out carbon material. Cleaning won't help, as there is nothing to clean - the resistive material is gone. Happens first around mid position of servo.

After re-tracking the servo, use it in a secondary importance function with the most occurring position not in the middle, such as throttle control. Or as one of two aileron servo's (in a 2 servo setup obviously) ...Or in a boat.

I have had several (cheap) Hitecs, that had to be "fixed" due to pot problems, whereas the gearing, motor etc were still operating perfectly.

However - In the elevator position, use a healthy, top notch performing, known good servo with an unblemished track record.
