Stall in Tight Turn

Hi,

I'm flying an old HB PDP .61 engine with the "Perry" style carb. It's starting to stall in really tight turns at any angle, up, down, etc. Any ideas on what could cause it and what to check?

Thanks,

Mike

Fuel tank and fuel lines. Might be apin hole in a tube someplace mk

Sure --

Tight turns equal higher 'G' loading and the engine just doesn't have the carb sucking power to draw the fuel. Either run richer or go to a pump. This assumes you already have muffler pressure.

Clogged pressure line?

Likely the engine going lean. Try a couple clicks richer from the start. Other than a pump or raising the tank, there isn't much else you can do if everything else checks out.

It's lean. Might be set too lean on the ground and unloading in the air, or it might be wearing out. When the tolerances get larger, they don't suck like they used to.

don't turn.

Fuel tank mounted too low. The load factor in turns increases the weight of the fuel and the carb suction can't lift it. Tank should be about level with the carb when airplane is in level attitude.
