can anybody show that the impulse response, h(k), for a minimum phase system, i.e., H(z) with stable numerater, is always positive?

Check out the impulse response of a minimum-phase bandpass filter. I think it will prove your premise false.

No, but I can disprove it (hint: start with just about any highly resonant 2nd-order system).
