AA rechargeable batteries

Is it possible to recharge N.American AA rechargeable batteries using a European recharger. I have both NiCD, and NiHM batteries, and planning a trip to Europe. A friend over there has a recharger, and suggests I use his while in Europe. Thanks !

What kind of charger? NiCd and NiMH batteries need to be charged differently -- although there may be chargers that handle both kinds.

I don't know what kind of charger......the voltage in Europe (220) is of course much higher than in Canada (120) where I live..... Could this voltage difference be cause for problems ?

I did not know that batteries in Europe were different

The input voltage is irrelevant. The output voltage and amps is what you match up. dahh. What are the specs on your friends charger? Do they match the needs of your batteries?

---------- Why doesn't BeTu check out his charger? I have one for NiMH AA size batteries and it is dual voltage- no problem. As you indicate, a charger for NiCD batteries may be a problem with NiMH batteries in that it may not shut off charging when it should..

The power mains voltage (120 USA vs. 240 European) is of no consequence since it is converted to the battery voltage by the recharger unit.

What IS of consequence is whether your European friend has a charger for NiCD or for NiHM batteries. They are not interchangable.
