green electrical box

Hello,

I just moved into an apartment. There is a green box on a telephone pole outside my window. I'm guessing it's an electral type junction box, but i'm not sure what it's called. My question: Is there anyway this could be hazardous? I mean can it emit any kind of hazardous emissions? Or is it safe to be around this thing. Thanks for any info.

You really have to figure out what kind of cables are going into it to figure out what it is for but I doubt it is hazardous in any way ...

...unless you have something to hide ;-)

That just isn't enough information for anyone to be helpful. If you could post a photograph of the box to one of the free on line hosting sites we mite be able to help.

If the pole is soaked in creosote to prevent rot and insect damage, that could be dangerous. Creosote is no good.

Sounds like a PMT (pole mounted trans) If it was not safe then they would not put it there.

Just like phone masts

like the other folks said. not enough info. look at the box. what kind of markings are on it? do the markings look like telco? if so then the worst thing that probably might happen is you get called by telemarketers through it.

Ok I posted the pic. What is it and can it be hazardous in anyway? Does it emit any hazardous rays? Please no jokes. I'm not crazy.

A power unit for cable TV equipment. Feeds power to amplifiers which boost the cable signal along the way from the cable company to your house.

No hazardous emissions to worry about...

Its a cable TV system backup battery. Its not harmful unless you climb up there and fiddle with it.

its an omni sensor placed by the planet Zarg that has been cleverly desguised as cable company equipment.

note the Zargon marking that sort of vaugely resembles styalized letters.

i wouldnt worry about harmful rays, but if it starts making a peep peep nose run like hell. (unless you spot a nest on top of it)

Bob and Paul,

Thank you for the help! I really appreciate it. I posted another picture. Can you tell me what those two smaller square things are to the right of the big green box? Do they emit anything? Could they be hazardous?

The things on the right are cable (TV) taps, the box on the left is the disconnect for the AC power. This thing is no more dangerous than the cable box on your TV, probably safer since a fire there on the pole wouldn't burn your house down.

Those would be 2 of the cable TV distribution amplifiers that the large box powers.

No harmful emissions there, either. If any of this pole-mounted equipment was in any way dangerous, in this day of frivolous lawsuits, no system operator would possibly install it anywhere near the general public.

The window for the camera is rather obvious. Besides, the state of the art cameras are so small, a pole-mounted transformer would be a waste of space.
