There is still call for this product, it was common practice to install

Yes, it's still permitted to fit BS456 round pin socket outlets.


All reputable manufacturers now make them with a shutter (mem250, Crabtree > MK etc)

They have to be shuttered when used in residential premises, but don't have to be shuttered otherwise.


Their main use nowadays is in hotels as a lighting socket for table lamps

I have used the 2A ones as wall outlets for lights switched at the doorway.
