Fitting Decoders into a Bachmann Class 108 - Help!!!

Hi All,

I am a newbie to this group, and revisiting the modelling world after a very long 20 year break.. I am getting into DCC and so far have managed to install a DCC Chip into a Bachmann Class 37, My new Bachmann Class

108 has arrived today and I am totally stumped with how to remove both the Motor and Passenger Carriage bodies so I can access the Decoder Sockets, The 1 page leaflet doesnt help my slightly untrained eye as it doesnt seem to indicate clearly what screws to undo or where the sockets are! The instructions say to undo the screws, the only one I can find hold one of the bogies in place!

Can anyone help a total DCC Beginner with a step by step guide or point me in the right direction! The Bachmann Class 37 was easy compared to this :-) I am a bit reluctant to dive in unless I break my model, but then again I like the challange of doing it myself.

Many thanks group!!

JC

I read there was a second decoder socket in the trailer car.

Then you would have also read that their are no jumper wires between the cars so each has to work on its own decoder. The lights on the motor car need three accessory outputs. Trace the wires and make sure that they are connected to the correct pins on the decoder socket. The decoder blue wire is the positive common and needs to go the the positive side of all the lights. (you can use a 9V battery to check which way round the LEDs are connected). The white and yellow decoder wires are for the head and tail lights and go to the negative side of the yellow and red LEDs. The negative side of the headcode/interior light needs to be connected to the remaining accessory wire, probably green. Make sure there is a resistor in series with each LED, the head and tail lights could have a common resistor as they don't come on at the same time. A decoder in the trailer car should be connected the same way or you can fit a small 4 pin plug and socket and run the blue, white, yellow and green wires through from the motor car. Keith

Sounds like the chip (plug) is the wrong way around. Try turning it 180 degrees and testing then ? The way the pins are set is a fail safe for the lights. Motor works, but the lights wont as it is trying to feed the power in reverse (I.E negative is going to the positive side of the lights)
