Unusual Power Meter

Sep 14, 2004 1 Replies

I recently saw a Landis and Gyr power meter on a building that was cycling between KW, KVar and one other unit. What is the reason for all of this information? Is all of that information recorded for billing?

Multifunction (electronic) meters have been commercially available since the

1980s. For polyphase, they became cheaper than electromechanicals in the mid/later 1990s.

The display may have read kWh/kVARh, and both are commonly written into tarriffs for commercial/industrial electricity.
