An FPV rig running laps on a toy roller coaster has to be the most surprising thing I have come across lately. The set is a K'nex build called Cobweb Curse, assembled as a multi-tier coaster inside an ordinary room, and it actually works as a first-person camera platform.
Putting it together is pleasingly simple. A Spektrum VA1100 micro camera sits on top of the toy coaster car, with a cloverleaf antenna held in place by white tape, and the whole rig is wired to a Lumenier 1S 205mAh pack. The track itself uses flexible plastic rails and cross-ties, and one section sweeps up into a vertical loop or tall arch, which is exactly where the onboard view must get wild.
The reason behind the build is the best part. The maker put this together for the maker's son, who is autistic and loves FPV, and by every account the son loved it. The onboard camera picks up rapid motion, inversions and loops along the track, and the footage also takes in the surrounding room, with the child watching the car hurry past. Seeing the reaction while wearing goggles is the payoff that makes the whole idea click for me. The clip opens with the child kneeling next to the finished coaster under the on-screen text 'Coaster fpv'.
One thing left open: the video closes with the coaster car clamped in a blue Dremel hobby vise, which reads as work still in progress on the rig. My only doubt is the taped antenna; after repeated loops I would expect it to need reseating now and then.
