This build originated from the goal of creating a tabletop animatronic representation of a specific metallic endoskeleton. The resulting piece is a bust mounted on a black base. The creator designed the eye and head movements to appear as realistic as possible. The overall construction utilized silver silk filament for the skull itself. To achieve the mechanical motions, the maker incorporated several specialized components.

The movement systems include a motorized jaw that functions mechanically when the operator manipulates the control device. Eye movement is managed by nine 9g servos, handling functions like X, Y motion and iris changes. Head movement is powered by FeeTech 25kg components and a PCA9685 Servo-Driver. Connectivity is handled by two ESP32 microcontrollers linked using the ESP-NOW communication protocol. Furthermore, the red LEDs within the eye sockets illuminate and increase in brightness when a rotary knob is turned.

The mechanical complexity is notable, with the build costing approximately 100€. However, the project is not yet complete. A remaining element is the selection of an appropriate frightening voice for the animatronic. This particular choice regarding the audio effect represents an open question for the maker.

The decision to connect two ESP32 microcontrollers using ESP-NOW is a clever choice. It allows for the complex control required for both the head and eye movements while maintaining a wireless link for remote operation.

For the head movement, the maker could consider replacing the current FeeTech 25kg components with a different series of high torque servos. This variation might allow for even smoother, more fluid motion during the rotation.
