Herring-Hall-Marvin Floor Safe docs

Hello all, I work for a company with an old safe located in the development room. It was abandonded by the last company before ours. I'm looking for some documentation about it, like where to find the serial number and how the thing works (e.g., how many turns left-right-left, etc.). If anyone can point me in the direction of some I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks much,

Gregory

4 turns left to the 1st number 3 turns right to the 2nd number 2 turns left to the third number right to stop or right to last number and turn handle

If that does not work, try the same thing but reverse the left turns for right turns and the right turns for left.

If you do not have the combination, forget getting it by a serial number, it aint gonna happen. Check the local phone directory for locksmiths in your area for bids on opening.

If you feel adventurous, you might try opening it yourself. Think of it as a hobby. Years ago at the library of Congress, I read a book called, "The Art of Manipulation" by Clyde Lentz and Bill Kenton.. Recently, while surfing the web, I found a pdf file with the same information. The link is posted below.

The book has been re-released. The link and copy are below.

The Art of Safe Manipulation

Open Combination Locks Without Drilling, Burning, or Forcing! This is the real deal and not a watered down version. The Art of Manipulation was written for locksmiths and safe professionals in order to improve their technique and knowledge of opening and servicing safes. This manual will familiarize you with why manipulation is possible and how it is accomplished.

The Art of Manipulation illustrates the step-by-step procedures needed to manipulate lever type fence locks. Additionally, it explains the methods used in the rotary fence gear driven, rotary fence spring loaded, straight in tail piece, bottom drop, and off-set gear driven type locks.

Manipulation, also known as the "Hear, Feel, and See" method, was discovered and developed by a small group of safe experts. After much deliberation, two of these experts decided to pass on their information to other safe professionals and published this invaluable book.

Availability: Usually ships in 5-7 business days.

In all fairness he didn't say anything about drilling it open and manipulating it doesn't require any of the tools you mention, only skill, and a lock that will cooperate. If you want to learn manipulation on old direct entry design is not a bad place to start.

You can find copy's of that book for a lot less than $212. If the copyright expired, as somebody claimed it had, there are probably digital copies floating around somewhere for free.

The Matt Blaze paper is not the same text as the book in question.
