Schlage lock knob hard to turn

I just installed 2 Schlage keyed entry sets on my home, Geo knobs. My wife who has minimal handstrength has a lot of trouble turning the inside lock knob (locking knob, not the big knob). Is there a way to loosen it up?

loosen the 2 inside screws a bit, and move the inside lock part... you are 'not centered' on that part... once you find the spot it turns easy, then tighten the screws... ALSO, you could have 1 screw tighter than the other, putting that part in a bind... --Shiva--

Shiva has given you the fix, but if the Mrs. is still having problems you can talk to your local locksmith and get the same knob style in a lock with a push button so your wife would not have to grip or twist anything.

It sounds as though something is mis-aligned. Loosen the whole set back up move it around a bit and see if that doesn't fix it.

I agree with what you just said but I might one more idea. If the wife really has strength problems, then move to a lever set rather than a knob. I have done that for a customer of mine who suffers from severe arthritis in her hands. After changing knobs to levers, she never had another problem.

she cant turn the lock BUTTON..... which 'I think', necessitates a change in brands... to a push the button to lock...

I'm sorry then, from the way I read that, it sounded like she was having difficulties turning the knob.

My bad

If realligning doesn't work, take the inside knob off, and the outside knob off. Where the thin metal locking shaft goes into the knob (0utdoor knob) give it a snort of WD-40. Should help. For a few months till the WD dries up.
