Re where to put the lock box:

I used to work as a Fire Prevention Officer in So. Cal. Some businesses had problems where the fire dept. would come out in the middle of the night and have to make immediate access. Goodbye (expensive) door! We would routinely recommend a specific lock box and recommend that it be installed on the front of the business, clearly visible from the street, and about 10 feet off the ground or in a concrete monument in the middle of an open area. That way it would not be possible to attach the box discretely. Hundreds of businesses have these boxes mounted and there has never been one reported case of vandalism or theft from any of them.

I did a similar thing with my home. Mounted a Supra on the front eave of the garage. High enough that a ladder or large box would be needed to reach it and where the street light provided constant lumination.

Only time I had to use it, so far, was when I locked myself out one morning getting the paper. D'oh! Felt foolish standing on a box in my robe out where all my neighbors (if any were actually looking) could see me.

Can't help you on that, I've never taken a wheeled model apart and my safe skills are poor. My original suggestion is to just take the time and work all the possible combinations. Make a partial list of possible combinations and go from there.

Another suggestion had to do with purchasing another unit so as to obtain instructions and to be able to look at the works. Buy a wall-mount model for versatility, the works should be the same. The one I personally use is the push-button, wall-mounted.

Think about this, If I were to give you specific instructions on how to bend a piece of .025 music wire inorder to release the mechanism, I would be taking the fun out of it for you.

A big time waster? Well it depends on the kind of question you ask. As an example if you were to ask a question about installing a new lock in place of ab old one you would probably find this group to be extremely helpful. If you were having a specific problem trying to get a lock out of your car door of something, folks around hete wouold also help.

But we as locksmiths do not give out information on how to compromise locks, even if you call us names.

Do you find that name calling an effective method of getting what you want?
