I have this problem in doing contact analysis in Ansys. I am trying to model 2D powder compaction which consists of number of spheres arranged in a form. The spheres are constrained from three sides and displacement based load is applied on the top wall and the resulting stresses are analyzed. In figure this looks like:

My problem is that even if I dont apply any load, the spheres try to move and hence the solution exceeds the dof limit. So it is obvious that the solution is divergent if load is applied. I am not able to figure out what should be the contact options. The contacts are in touching position and there is little penetration, which is just enough to keep the initial gap to be closed.
I would be greatfil if you could help me out as soon as possible. My project is stuck inbetween.
