Heavy Duty Hydraulic Scissor Lift Workbench Construction

The most striking element of this mobile hydraulic lift workbench is the motivation behind its creation: the maker intended the device to relieve physical stress when working at different heights. Workshop From Scratch designed this adjustable-height, mobile work surface to be comfortable and versatile for tasks that require lowering an object and then raising it. The construction features a large, thick rectangular metal top surface supported by a robust frame.

The assembly begins with a foundation that the maker welded from dark gray rectangular steel tubing in an H-frame configuration. Upright pivot supports and the scissor lifting arms were built from square tubing, complemented by custom-fabricated steel clevis brackets. The frame utilizes a mixture of dark gray spray paint for the base and tabletop, while the orange paint highlights the lifting scissor arms and the pump assembly.

For functionality, the device incorporates a 10T hydraulic cylinder ram and a foot pump kit. The maker used a MIG welder for the rectangular lower frame and a drill press for the pivot supports. Stability was tested by locking the casters and rolling a gas lawnmower onto the table. One open question surrounding the design is the use of bolted pivots and plastic end caps in an assembly intended for heavy-duty industrial work. This is a fascinating build that successfully combines fabrication and hydraulics.

I think the maker's decision to use custom fabricated steel clevis brackets is a clever engineering choice. It seems to offer a specific design requirement that might be more suitable for the load and movement of the scissor arms than a standard connection would provide.

The maker welded the rectangular lower frame from square steel tubing. Can you explain the specific method used to mount the 10T hydraulic cylinder and foot pump kit between the base frame and the scissor arms?

I suggest the maker consider utilizing a different finish for the dark gray components. Since the table is intended to be a comfortable and versatile work surface, a more durable, abrasion-resistant coating could improve the longevity of the metal top surface.
