Actylene welding question

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Don, how did you miss "Rule of thump?" Isn't that something used to measure drumsticks?

Nah. It comes from the old saying, "If you don;t agree, I'll just thump you one".

I have a little smith, the smallest style they sell, and a meco midget.

Keep in mind I know essentially zero about oxyacetylene.

I've never had the meco get hot, but I have had flashbacks, and the sound kind of scary. I shut the fuel off, and do have flashback arrestors at the tank regulators. If the fuel pressure is too low, or you get too close to the work, this will happen. It may be a poping sound, or the buzzing noise.

As for the little smith, I never figured out how to adjust it, and it got way hot a few times, but never never seemed to flashback. I've thrown it back in the box until something can show me how to get the things to work ok.

As for setting these torches, I find a photograph of a flame useless as a guide. They just don't look the same when you're in the bright outdoors.

I didn't miss it. I figured one tweak was enough and opted for "Minnesota Nice".
