Anybody need a bunch of 1A Collets? (2025 Update)

Jan 29, 2020 Last reply: 8 months ago 49 Replies

They are alleged to be the same as 3C, just 1/8" shorter. They are the SouthBend version of 3C

Im going through bins and came across a bunch of them..probably 50-75, mixed sizes. Biggest size Ive found just picking a couple off the top was 3/8". My memory says there are collets up to 1/2" in there. All the collets Ive looked at were Hardinge. Smallest one appears to be

1/16". Im sure there are a bunch of duplicates in there and likely not a full set.

Make me an offer and Ill put em in a box and ship em to you. Want a picture of the bin..let me know.

No interest..Ill slide em on Ebay and start em at $10 for the lot.

" Jennifer Martinez It's apparent by your statement that you spend very little of your liberal life around ALPHA personalities I threaten no one and only respond to accordingly. I live by the rule don't start any s*it and there wont be any. Now don't even try to imply that liberals are not " forcing anything" because if you can clear your head of that bong fog, and really look at the liberal agenda, you will see that they ARE calling for forcing their agenda of gun confiscation among other things into law. As for your personal attack on me about "wouldn't be s*it without a gun" I assure you I am equally proficient with a blade or club. I'm sure that must be quite shocking to a liberal woman used to boys sporting skinny jeans and a man bun. You sure are judgmental for being of the liberal persuasion, but then that is a trait of the hypocritical left. I apologize in advance if my statement in any way causes a prolonged stay in your safe space to recover adequately, I'm sure it must be traumatizing on your snowflake feelings!

I have two small lathes with 3C adapters in the spindles. I would be interested if I knew for sure they would fit up nice in a 3C taper, but historically you've been unreliable for me both before and after your stroke. Let us know if you put them on Ebay, and I may bid on them, but I'm not going to do a private party deal.

Here is a forum discussion where they talk about them.

Near the end somebody claims to have looked them up in the machinery's Handbook.

My first lathe was a Craftsman, came with, believe it or not, a Royal collet closer, nose piece, and a couple collets. Got a small lot production job and needed a 3/8 collet, cost me some $48 best I recall, this was nearly 30 years ago. $10 for the lot? Screaming bargain!

Imagine that. That's because you have said you would do things several times and NEVER followed through. Hard to do business with somebody who never follows through.

Ok... last chance. Email pictures of collets and other hardware you want an offer on to alarm(underscore)wizard(at)hotmail(dot)com

This will be number 5 (that I can recall).

I do not promise to make an offer or that if I do it won't be low, but if you follow through this time you will be upgrade from wishing well to slot machine in my estimation.

Yep. EBay will take care of him for you... They stopped allowing sellers to mess with buyers many years ago. Nowadays it's easy being a buyer on eBay. I will be surprised if he even "slides" them onto eBay.

Whatever, good luck.

I could, but its not worth MY time since I wasn't worth your time. Now is your chance to follow through and upgrade my opinion though.

You are wrong. Perhaps even being deliberately deceitful in your attempt to redirect. I remember exactly each time of those I counted. A couple were small. One was a "favor" (that I would have to pay for if you actually did it), and the first was a true sounding favor. The FACT is you came through on none of them. Favor or cash you didn't do what you said. I even have your phone number still stored on my phone from one of those times you failed to do what you said. We have spoken on the phone before about one of them.

I could list out and detail each instance, but then you would try and rebut them and it would certainly get nasty. You can act better or not. Its your choice.

So are you going to escalate this to insults and threats like you have with others in the past, or are you going to actually do what you said for once?

If you choose the former that would be disappointing, but if you bother to look you may even have my address in your old emails. If you choose the later then good for you. That would be a notable improvement over past behavior.

Sincerely, Bob La Londe Yuma, Az

If they are the lot in the red plastic bin... $100 for the lot plus shipping. Dirt, rust, and all. Don't want the closer. If you accept you can send a PayPal invoice to the address I posted earlier.

I have a limited set of 3C already, but I have two lathes where I use them. Sometimes I need the same size in both lathes, so duplicates are useful. I run into the same thing with my 5C stuff with a couple collet blocks and a couple spindexers. My offer is for the lot. If there are

3 of one size I do not need the third, but if it substantially reduces the number I'll fall back on what I said. My offer is for the lot as is. Payment is by PayPal with an invoice describing the lot.

That remains to be seen.

Not interested in the closer. Its an offer. No is a perfectly acceptable response.

About $2...ayup. Probably.

I went through bins and came across a bunch of them..probably 50-75 I still haven't really counted them yet.

50-75, whatever, it is a big number. And I'm working on it. Im a bit slow.

"Journalists are extremely rare and shouldn’t be harmed, but propagandists are everywhere and should be hunted for sport"

Yeah..with no bag limit.

Absolutely understood. It is an offer. One Im going to ponder on for a bit.

***********

My offer was "as is" for the lot. Just dump them in a box and ship them. After you have gone through them, sorted them, cleaned them, and/or determined if they are garbage my offer is defunct. I am willing to gamble $100 plus shipping on an unknown lot of collets. I am not willing to throw away $100 on a lot of collets you may have determined aren't worth $100 plus shipping. You can think about it, but once you have started cleaning, sorting, or evaluating you have rejected the "as is" portion of the offer therefor rejecting the offer.

This is my current offer.

If I wanted to pay retail for them I would pay retail, or for $109 dollars I can get another import set of 3C like the one I have already, which turned out to be quite good.

Sheesh, If I open bids on an item at $10 and got $100, I would be thrilled. Now your pondering the price. btw, I was leaning on your side on the poor follow up accusations, now I wonder. Mikek

Lack of follow through again. Not because you didn't actually post a picture of your pile of dirt and rust covered "Hardinge" collets, but because you didn't bother to respond even though you clearly indicted you wanted to think it over. More than one time implying it was a possibility you might accept. I was left wondering whether you would accept or not. Instead I found it in a different branch of the conversation in a reply to somebody else entirely. Purely by luck.

So this tells me that while you will follow through eventually if publicly shamed for your past behavior... not really. You didn't even have the courtesy to say, "no thank you."

I'm sure you will have some excuse or some left handed insulting way of responding. Enjoy yourself. I just want to thank you for your time. Here's hoping you have a great rest of your day.

I sold three Harleys on Ebay in a week for a net of about $34K and thousands of dollars worth of Harley parts around that same time period. So what. I've got 100% feeback on Ebay as well. Doesn't mean a thing the way Ebay has bastardized and broken the feedback system. I'd rather have a negative from a troll than see the system made 100% meaningless the way it is today.

I chose to believe you were just extremely forgetful or indifferent about doing what you say in the past, but this thread has lead me to think there is a possibility you are also a liar.

You said you would do something for me. Actually you offered right here on Usenet. Totally a favor when I was just starting in machining, but YOU OFFERED. You didn't do it. I actually mentioned it years ago, and it turned out you had a stroke. I felt bad and let it drop at the time. Now it was a favor or an awfully nice gesture, but the fact is you didn't do what you said you would do.

You said you would meet me to look at a machine if I paid for your fuel and bought you lunch. I told you in advance when I would be there and called you on the phone when I was headed out which was when you said you decided to do something else that day. Sure its not what you get paid to fix a machine, but YOU OFFERED. I didn't ask you to. The fact is you didn't do what you said you would do.

Twice you have said you have a bunch of something I needed and to just email you a list of what I need and you would give me a price. I did email you, and took the time to put together a list. You never followed through. The fact is you didn't do what you said you would do.

This time you didn't have the common courtesy to just say no thank you. A much smaller thing so it doesn't actually qualify as not doing what you said you would do, but in light of your history does nothing to make you look any better.

There are several smaller things as well. One might accuse me of holding a grudge. No, but I don't forget either. I know you are unreliable.

I am sure you have excuses, but the fact is when it comes to follow through with me you just didn't do what you said you would do. Maybe you still have memory issues from your stroke. Maybe its you not giving a s*it. Regardless you are proven to be unreliable by your own lack of doing what you say you will do.

Post your collets on Ebay all cleaned up with nice pictures and sorted with detailed information and all the bad ones thrown out. I might bid on them. I might not.
