Anyone can guess what size are those electrodes?

Any educated guess what size electrodes are those?

I am guessing 3/8" for the biggest and 5/16 for the next biggest.

If they are for TIG (GTAW), the sizes which I can use are 1/16",

3/32", and perhaps 1/8" (Of course, I don't have the high current welder and I don't have the water cooled torch, so ... :-)

And there are lots of choices for which alloy -- though those look old (in part from the grooved wood packaging), so for normal welding they are probably the thoriated tungsten (mildly radioactive, and you need to control the dust when you sharpen them). If for aluminum, they are likely to be pure tungsten, which balls up instead of keeping its point -- good for welding aluminum, not so for welding steel.

Are you considering buying these to use, or to resell? (Hmm looks as though the auction is closed, so the question should be *did* you buy these for use or to resell? :-)

Enjoy, DoN.

That's a lot that I won.

I do my usual thing, which is to keep a couple and sell the rest. I am mostly wondering about those huge extra thick electrodes, how big are they and what are they used for.

I am pretty well set with TIG electrodes, but I have never seen salad colored electrodes, I wonder what they are.

Hey Iggy,

If your dimensions are correct, I don't know, but to me they look like TIG electrodes, and some would appear to be the thoriated type.

The red tipped ones are, definitely.

Green is pure tungsten, recommended for AC and not used much these days. I doubt the big'uns are 3/8. 3/16 and 5/32 are more likely.

I will post the answers when the "TUNGSTONS" arrive.

When you go to sell the big ones, consider throwing in that they are good for making gaps for Tesla Coils.

Gunner, you get the prize for being most correct.

The biggest ones are 1/4" thoriated, like these:
