At Segway we knew how to build cheap simple toys too.
Frog days:
He presents a good analysis of the difference between a builder's toy and a commercial product, and some of the dangers of a malfunction. The same could be applied to cars, they would be far lighter and cheaper except for crashes and lawyers. The real oldies are light enough for four men to pick up, and still adequate around town. 25 HP is enough to reach 50 - 60 MPH.
The photo should have shown him wearing skateboarder padding and a full face helmet.
