Evapo-Rust opinions?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I bought a gallon, based on a recommendation I read here a while back. It is everything they claim for it. When you pour it out, it behaves like soap--it does not irritate the skin. A badly rusted steel surface comes out looking clean and gray, like hot-rolled steel. I have not tried it on any assemblies, but someone else here reported that a Jacobs chuck that was jammed with rust became usable after soaking, even without any disassembly.

Bought 5 gal for the same reason. Had some 316 stainless that had rust stains from salt water. Soaked it at about 140-150 F for 4 hours with absolutely no effect on the rust spots. Then put a couple of boat winch gears in for 24 hours at room temp and one came out clean and gray, and the other still had some scale but it would rub off. Put it back in last night and will check tomorrow but I expect it will look as good as the first gear. The stainless really disappointed me because I was hoping to substitute the evaporust for the citric acid passivation I'm doing now, but clearly I need to do more tests. Has a slightly obnoxious smell, feels slippery on the skin but doesn't seem to cause any irritation. So far I'm very happy with the performance on steel.

Thanks, Leo & Carl. I have a couple of sample gallons coming, and also a small ebay lathe with "some rust". They should hit about the same time, so I'll try it our firsthand next week.
