G-10 How is it made?

Can anyone tell me how G-10 tubes are made? Do they always deform when cut in half lengthwise? Why are they green? Are they always green? Can one manufacture one's own G-10 tubes? Dave

I think the particular resin that GE uses (G10 is a general electric trademark IIRC) is green. It may be an additive to give some particular property like fire retardance or moisture resistance.

There are many shops like AIN plastics who will sell you pre-formed G10 tubing, this is cloth wrapped lay-up. You can also find shops that will make fillament-wound composite tubing, this is done with automated winding machines.
