HF FRL Air System Filter

I have had one of these for prolly 8 years. The plastic view dome on the filter can just blew off in pieces. Instant tank dump and no way to bypass without re-plumbing. Replacements are available (part 1-c) for a buck each from HF. I ordered 4. Heads up for you guys that have one. JR Dweller in the cellar

Makes me wonder if I should come up with some sort of "disaster shut off" for my compressor's motor. (I shut it off when I'm not using air, but maybe someday I will forget to).

That's an interesting idea, sumpn I've pondered. These exist for water, I believe, and gas. Don't know how it works, probably just on pure pressure drop, indicating very high volume flow, ie, pipe rupture. Maybe a cheap--or relatively cheap--way to do this for a compressor is to have a timer activated when the compressor kicks in, which will time out the motor if continuously run beyond a certain length of time. IOW, anticipate the longest reasonable cycle time of the motor under heavy use, and set the timer for a little more than this. Put in a bypass for things like the tank bleeding empty, needing a total fillup, or the odd air tool, etc.

I used these timers long ago in HVAC applications, and they weren't entirely cheap, but then they were high industrial grade. Proly have cheaper versions somewhere, or solid state. Grainger's, mebbe, altho nuthin is cheap in that place. Industrial control places carry them. There's one by me if you need a name.
