Wes and Terry, do you think that one could make gears with a "rotary table", as opposed to an indexing head?

Sure. If you look at the link to the rotary in your earlier post, the thing has provision for adding a dividing attachment.

Then there is just the counting turns. Probably not fun with prime number gears.

Thanks, the setup looks a little "hokey" with the tailstock mounted in the vise but it worked out OK.

Fur shur! It is an old Palmgren rotary table in the pix with the optional dividing attachment, haven't thought about it but I'm sure Wes is right, odd number teeth would be challenging!
