NOTE:No new foul posts

May 19, 2004 2 Replies

Ego tempts me to take credit.

I will say that at least I tried, and something other thatn ignoring it worked.

_Every time_ there was a post to this NG and any that I was using, that was virus spam, Ireported it to SpamCop.

For weeks. Now it's gone.

Somebody tell me that I am wrong. I won't waste my time next attack, as others here "advised" (and I use the term "advised" politely).

But.................

maybe action works.

1) Hmm ... *I* don't see any difference. But I haven't been seeing what you have been complaining about anyway. (Just as I don't normally see attachments posted to usenet newsgroups, because someone upstream is blocking attachments.) 2) My collection of *email* containing foul content remains unchanged. 3) Spamcop does not process usenet articles -- *only* e-mail. (what address are you using for SpamCop? there are two addresses, one with a .net, and one with a .com -- the latter is probably an imitator. 4) Spamcop even distinguishes between spam (which it *does* deal with) and virii (which it does *not* deal with), so calling something "virus spam" puts it into an ambiguous position for Spamcop processing. 4) Are you *sure* that your newsreader wasn't also displaying e-mail to you as usenet postings? Your complaining to spamcop *might* have had an effect (for the real spam, not for the virii) if it was actually e-mail which you were confusing with usenet postings.

Or perhaps your ISP or whoever runs your news server has installed some kind of attachment blocking -- perhaps as a result of your complaints (and those of others), or perhaps just as a part of an upgrade to newer news server software.

Enjoy, DoN.

Not them. Many of the spams to the ngs did not have attachments, but simply pointed to URLs

I get none at all.

.net, and I am aware of the other one. I was told by their moderated forums that I should post usenet messages.

shrug. Not sure. It all _said_ it was processed. I posted online into a box, then had to read the processed result, and then send. It seemed to process tham all, and provide addresses it was going to send announcements to. I had a couple of failures of the dozens I sent.

Yes I am sure. I do not get mail at all via the news reader (Free Agent), and these were simply mass-postings to the groups.

As I said, I don't think so. I have been interacting them quite a bit, as well as sending to SpamCop. They have indicated no changes. Also, as I said, many of the spams either had failed to attach the intended attachment, or simply pointed to a URL.
