Old Chevy Question

I got a pair of Chevrolet valve covers at a yard sale for $5. To me, they look like 55-57 range. One has an oil fill hole, or breather hold in it at the "h" of Chevrolet, and that side has two wire loom tabs on the top. IIRC, that would be the driver's side. The other one has no wire loom tabs, or oil filler hole, just the four hold down bolt holes. Stock orange, but need repainted. One ding in one of them. Otherwise, pretty solid metal wise.

Does anyone know about these? Or where I could research them. ebay is all over the place from $10 to $65.

Most earlier valve covers 283 & 265 had the Chevrolet script stamped in them and no filler holes. The oil filler/breather was in the front of the intake manifold in the form of a pipe sticking out at an angle. Late 60's had the filler in the valve cover with the advent of the PCV valve. Steve

Oh yea -- I've got examples of that right next to me -- one '63 Suburban with a 283 (breather in front), and one '69 1/2 ton (PCV valve, and one of those damned plastic filler plugs that never wants to go on right).

Thought of the old PCV valves when I was looking at them today. Oh, well, $5. I've had some pretty good garage sale scores lately. You don't hit a home run on every one.
