I'm working on achieving it for myself some day. May be a while but I plan to enjoy it just the same.

I'm not a big fisherman type by any means but a day on a boat or wading a stream for trout is always a good day.

Just north of you, it was icky sticky. Today was better but just about everyone felt drained from the previous days working in our hot humid factory.

I'm in Ag country also, my weeds, er grass is getting tall. I *thought* about cutting it today and changed my mind. Maybe tomorrow if I don't have to work the weekend. I'm a spring and fall guy.

I have air conditioning and am willing to spend my hard earned money to feed it. Most every night I shake and bake something as long as the a/c keeps working.

Actually..yes I did. But...I was trying to cut the shaft on a Hardinge HLV-H..and it has a 1hp motor. If Id had my 15" Clausing up and running (bad belt..broken) with its 7.5 hp motor..it would have worked fine with no issues.

Shrug. Clausing wants $120 for the belt, plus shipping and its hard to come up with that much money for a belt I didnt think Id have all that much use for. Now its becoming apparent that I do, so will have to come up with the belt, and soon.

Since you found all the information for Corpus Christi, what is the standard deviation for that average? I would expect it to be much more than 16 degree days. That is less than a week of weather 3 degrees warmer than the average.

That's what NOAA gave me. And 1971 - 2000 is not a bad range "since you were a kid", unless you're 140 years old.

This is a ridiculous thing to argue about. Short-term weather, even over a few years, is not climate. Last winter the deniers were in full song, scratching each others' backs over how cold it was. I was just returning the favor.

That wasn't the average temperature. That was cooling degree-days. You can look it up and work it out without much trouble. NOAA makes a lot of information available.

Well, go check it out. And when you do, what will you have? What was meant to be a joke, a sort of return tweaking of the nose, has now descrended into irrelevant nonsense. Weather is not climate.

You don't need each year. NOAA uses those years, collectively, as its basis for comparison. It came from them.

Actually, what it all came from is vast fields of pasture all cropped to the height of a cow's lips (or in some places, a horse's) and some impossibly rich person said "that looks nice, I think I'll have that set up in front of the plantation, and have the gardners move the cows around now and then to keep it even." Got to the point where they even came up with special breeds of cows just for that. Everything else since has been people trying to keep up with that image, and trickling down to now we all feel like we have to. Peer pressure.

Heck with that, I _like_ only mowing once a month when the grass goes dormant. I've just had too much rain to get away with that, that and the crabgrass got an early start this year.

If you want the original One True Lawn, that self-aerates, self- fertilizes, and self-mows, get a cow. Some work required--especially to keep her from eating the shrubery--or the victory garden. Though I like the idea of planting alfalfa (at least I wouldn't have to add nitrogen, not that I do much) if I did I'd _never_ be able to keep the deer out of the apple trees...though at the rate the creeping thyme is taking over, I may have another alternative. It never gets much over

I am seeing more vegetable gardens these days, even on the "front" side of some houses.
