It depends on the generator. some are made well. others the power head is s*it and will burn out very quickly or the engine will die after a few weeks runtime.

Your use also determines how long it will last too. If you are running it say.. a week straight, then yah it's probably going to die a fairly rapid death. If you only do it occasionally for a few hours at a time then it should last a while.

I have a diesel gen, rated about 2/5 KW. first engine blew a head gasket and cracked the head at about 250 hours..... air cooled is a bad thing for extended run. Went with a different engine and put water cooled on it... hadn't had a problem since.
