no one in the thread has mentioned the actual reason for using soda and especially in Scotch. it adds nothing to flavor, may mask it somewhat, but the buzz is much more immediate (and, imho, with less total booze).

yes, a shame to spritz pricey Scotch, but i seriously doubt many of us do. the Brits keep a "keg", all of the partial bottles of many brands go in. that has always intrigued me. as always, ymmv, --Loren

i meant to say, _2liter_ bottle_. if you invert (cold) to dispense, they last. this trick does not seem to work well with "soda pop", it fizzes most of the CO2 out of the (dispensed) liquid. --Loren

It must be (1) cold and (2) have diffuse, unrestricted flow. Look at a soda fountain dispenser head ( e.g.,

i simply invert and crack the cap, it is fizzing as the liquid runs off the cap but there is plenty of CO2 still in solution. very little content is wasted and if the bottler did a proper job, the jug stays firm until the last oz is used. ymmv, of course. --Loren
