slot drill

Who makes a 25mm slot drill with a 20mm shank? I've only got collets avaliable up to 20mm and need to drop a 25mm hole in some aluminium?

You want a hole or a slot? A prentice drill will have a 1/2" shank (not sure about European standard though. Maybe 13mm?) which you can hold in a drill chuck, if you are in fact looking for a hole. If you want a slot, it's not a good idea to use a cutter of the same width as the slot you're trying to create. Your finish will be garbage and your slot will be too wide.

At least better with a center-cutting two-flute endmill (which is called a "slot drill" in the UK because it *is* so much better at milling slots with a single pass. (Of course, you do need somewhere for the chips to go -- either a through slot with space below it, or a shop vac sucking the chips away as you cut.)

Three-flute is not too bad at the job, but not as good, and four or six flute are terrible at the task.
