Someone was kind enough to email me the dimensions of his similar trailer.
1) length of the bed 110" 2) INSIDE width of the bed in NARROWEST point (between wheel wells) 53.5" 3) inside width at widest point 73.5" 4) outside width near the bottom 83"My craigslist axle is about 74" spring to spring and 98" from outer rim of the wheel to outer rim.
Clearly the axle is too long.
At this point, if I go with this axle, I will have to shorten it (2-3 hours), and will spend about $300 on hubs and brakes. And in the end I will have 3,500 lbs GVWR max and about 2,200 lbs of hauling capacity. And then the brakes or hubs could be somehow wrong etc.
I think that it may be better to just buy/order a proper axle at 6,000 or 7,000 lbs GVWR, with the matching hubs and built in electric brakes. Then my hauling capacity will be 4,500-5,500 lbs with proper wheels. A huge difference and more deserving of this bed box.
I may reuse my current wheels (5 hole) if these heavy duty axles can have 5 hole hubs as an option (knowing that it will limit my GVWR to
4,500 lbs, as these wheels are rated for 2,250 capacity). And then one day I may find cheap wheels for an easy upgrade to full capacity.I have a few phone numbers of local dealers of Dexter, Al-Ko Kober, and will get on the phone on Monday.
