I've just got myself a REAL grass cutting machine, an ex-Environment Agency Allen Mayfield 8 MKH, which has a hydrostatic drive, Kohler 8hp engine, double wheels & a sickle bar cutter plus a super heavy duty twin rotary front deck. So far so good, but as well as the hydrostatic drive to the rear axle/diff, there are individual guarded chain drives to each rear wheel, which seem to be capable of disengaging via the right handlebar lever. I thought this might function as a diff lock, but on mine it makes no discernable difference to anything! Before I tear the thing apart to see what's what, does anyone have any experience of this machine, or could anyone point me towards a manual or parts list for it? (Allen say they have neither information, spares or manuals available)
