Any surplus fly press punches

Nov 17, 2005 1 Replies

I am just wondering if anyone out there got the odd 8mm punch and die suitable for 1/8" or 3.18 mm thick steel that is surplus to requirements.

A home made holster to suit the 38mm dies is now fitted to the fly press so looking for that size if possible.

I am going to make some simple and relatively light hairpin fencing and have the prospect of making a few hundred holes and thought a fly press and punch set up would be a lot faster then drilling.

Have tried a 10mm punch set up that can get through the steel with effort, so 8mm should be a bit easier. I have even looked at using silver steel and grinding the end before hardening, but would struggle with the die hole to get the correct rake/clearance.

If you can assist please let me know what costs nd if reasonable will bite you hands off!

Have been looking at ebay for a little while without success.

Cheers

Adrian

Adrian, you would be looking at about =A320/23 + vat for a new punch and die.Alternatively get a bit of air hardening tool steel and turn your own.Clearance would be about 0.020"-0.025" so it`s not precision work.8mm hole would take marginally over 3 tons to punch so your 5 ton flypress will manage it no bother. regards,Mark.
