Anyone got a LARGE bridge rectifer ?

I'm looking for a BEEFY bridge rectifier to give me DC capabilities on my Oxford stick welder - peak current 500Amps average perhaps 200 when running. Although the voltage is relatively low (80vAC) there will be loads of high voltage spikes no doubt - other bridges I've seen in MIG and TIG sets are rated at 800 or 1200 peak inverse.

Anyone got anything kicking arround - or 4 humungous diodes ??

(no four 1N4007's won't work )

i could do you at least 100 1N4007's if that would help lol... but sorry to say i am unable to help otherwise, from what i know about bridge rectifiers, which is very little, i would say you are on to a difficult one

We have four Westinghouse 710M21 / 710MR20 series diodes, all new in makers packaging, 5000A peak 1/2 cycle surge current at 60Hz, not sure of the vrrm though, these were probably plating rectifiers 275A in single-phase configuration.

The data sheet that is with them is for the 1N404X series, mechanically identical to the Westinghouse types. 3/4-16 UNF mounting....

I've asked a friend in Westinghouse if he can ID the vrrm for me.

These are 1969 manufacture BTW....:-))

RS part number 395-9220 is rated 600A but a bit pricey at £70 a pop.

183-8086 is a bit more reasonable - 400A and only 21 quid each.

Peter,

Is there ANYTHING that you don't have tucked away Sounds very interesting - (anyone got any 3/4" unf nuts )

If the PIV is high enough I'm in hand bitting off mode !!!!

Years of accumulation!

Fitting hardware is included, nut, locknut and washer.....

I don't think they will be high voltage types, although the generic range goes up to 1000V vrrm, my guess is they will be 100V or less :-((

Peter,

Did you ever hear from your contact with the data one these diodes?

Nope :-((

I also put a post on sci.electronics.components with no results so far...
