will "black bar" weld OK ? I want to make a heavy roller with a 35 mm spindle . Black bar is so much cheaper the bright bar , but will it weld ? regards Phil

Should be no problem at all to weld, it's black because it's hot rolled and has a layer of oxide. Even if you don't grind this off it won't stop your welding.
