Brazing Hearth

I'd like to make a small brazing hearth, does anyone know if any of the big DIY stores sell suitable fire bricks -or can anyone suggest any other sources.

Most builder's merchants sell firebricks, but you could ask at a boiler specialist or go skip-diving for bits. There are 2 sorts: fireplace bricks that are yellow/tan coloured and suspiciously heavy, and insulative ones (for lining chimneys?) that are light-weight, white, and soft enough to carve.

Get some of both - the heavy ones suck too much heat out of small work, but make a good base.

I have a bunch of insulating firebricks in my garage & you'ld be welcome to enough for a small hearth - contact me offline if you are near enough to Manchester to make it worth the journey.
