Oiling Slip Gauges

Does anyone know the best type of oil to clean and protect slip gauges when putting them away after use?

hi

i've worked in engineering for 20 years using slip gauges daily an i've never seen a rusty one

even when they have been dropped down the back of the work bench for months

i think they must have a composition that doesn't rust with ease (h nikel perhaps)

but if you want to oil them i think any oil will help to protect the from moisture

all the best

I have been oiling mine with ISO68 way oil on principal. I may desist when I get a workshop with a more controlled atmosphere.
