(OT) The lunatics are running the assylum

Some years five ago I was burgled, they caught the culprit, he went to jail and was ordered to pay me the princely sum of £388 in compensation for the £1500 damage he did, when he came out of klink. So far I've been paid £30.

Today I got a letter from the courts saying he was back in jail, and what would my views be if he had to serve a longer term in jail to wipe out the debt to me !!!!!!!!

Why should any crook be given the easy option of more free board and lodging to avoid paying a debt to another citizen? It's a totally mad concept as far as I'm concerned.

Look at it this way:- Your chances of getting the money are slim to zilch. If he's on the street he'll probably do it again. If he's behind bars he won't.

The pragmatist would say do the deal with the courts. The emotional reaction may be different.

Andrew, the answer is easy, just tell them he should spend a little longer in jail - just until he has paid off his debt to you in full. I'm not sure how much they get or even if they work these days but should keep him off the street for a while as he saves up the =A3358 to pay you. Of course it will cost us tax payers thousands to keep him for that time but hey, I for one won't mind contributing to his "time away".

Heard on the radio last week that 25,000 prisoners are going to be given early release to help reduce overcrowding AND if that doesn`t take the biscuit they are going to give them 10.1/2 quid a day for the remainder of the sentence they should have served to compensate them for losing their bed and breakfast. FFS! When are the clowns running this country going to realise that sentences should be increased to combat petty crime not reduced. They won`t think of giving the poor old pensioners who are getting mugged in their own home any compensation but are releasing their attackers and paying them. It`s time the electorate were making their feelings known. Mark.

If they introduced chain gangs, with 12 hours on and 12 hours off, they could get twice the number of prisoners in the same number of cells.

Things are OK- the Aussies are now eating the Kangeroos.

My generation ate the jack rabbits before 'mixa' In fact apart from ancient ships biscuits that was all that we had to live on.

We, I should explain, were male, 18 years of age, white, British born and had committed no crime apart from being physically fit.

Oh, in case of further doubt, we were National Servicemen.

Oh I don't know, it's not all bad....

I make all the moulded parts for the tagging systems and base stations, so hopefully I can expect some big new orders .

Peter

Fit an ipod inside a tag casing and you'll have a best selling kid's fashion accessory.

You'd probably want it to be bluetooth capable to avoid the embarrassment of routing cables from the ankle mounted ipod to the earphones :-)

Mark Rand RTFM

Doesn't need to be bluetooth - could be 2.4ghz or similar

Oh wait - that was a joke....

Michael

Ne'er. It want's to be 440 volt 3 phase bare wires.

It would also become an absolute 'must have' for the RoyalNavy as well! Something else for those nasty 'Johnny Foreigners' to take away from them when they get caught with thier trousers down (again)
