questions about Clark CL500M lathe/miller

Hi I have recently brought a Clark CL500M combined lathe and miller (yes I realise it has some limitations, but its only for light use in my garage..) my problem is that it is in bits! I have managed to put it all together, although realigning it will be fun as the head stock was taken off the bed. At least I have managed to get a manual from Machinemart for it. However the main gearbox needs some oil, the manual just states 'gear oil' so the question is what sort of 'gear oil' should I use? Will a standard car gearbox/axle oil do (such as EP80) or should it be something more specialised? My second problem is that the wiring has been removed from the motor. Again the manual is not much help, I think it was wired to reverse the motor (it has a starting capacitor on it), just wondering if anyone can help with how it would have been wired up or do I need to dig out my old electrical engineering text books and do it from first principles!

many thanks mike
