Setting Piston Valve Gear Timing

Hi



Can someone tell me how to set a steam engine's piston valve gear please.



Have timed slide valves ok - but not sure if its the same for a piston.

When the piston is as far forward as it will go, then the inlet port should be on the point of opening.
