star delta and inverters

This is a question more for the industry rather than the hobbyist but I thought I try anyway I have 3 phase 5 hp fan on 415 volt supply running in delta works OK I need to vary the speed I have a jaguar VX 400 which is 4kw 415 volt 3 phase in 3 phase out variable frequency but the motor which is 10 pole don't like it should the motor be rewired in star when running with a inverter the documentation don't cover this any suggestions

Should be star for 440 in and out. Not got my books in front of me at the moment. Hang on - web site - Set parameter 29 to 1 - active and set parameter 30 to number of poles - 10 Try that.

Vary the speed ... upwards or downwards?

Bear in mind that the power required to drive a fan varies as the cube of the speed, so increasing speed is likely to be problematic.

If you're reducing it, see John's answer.
