Wheel size oddity

OK it's not model engineering but this trailer has carried loads of models ! (and the odd Bridgeport and Cincinatti mill)

I'm trying to find a spare wheel for my trailer, which has what look like Indispension units, with 5 stud 5" PCD hub and rims fitted with

165SR15 tyres. That combination of 5 stud and 5" PCD and 15" rim seems not to crop up anywhere that I can find - anyone got any clues ?

Whatever vehicle the wheels were off obviously was fitted with chrome hubcaps as the fixings are there , but the Indispension hub unit pushes though the centre wheel hole (about 3" diameter) far too far for any to be fitted now.

Its only a clue but my 1987 Indespension cat. shows that hub with 13" or 14" wheels as a Morris 1800 so perhaps another BL car of similar vintage. hth

Andrew, have a look here:

It doesn't tell you the wheel size but it has many common PCD's and offsets, so if you know these this should help narrow the list down a bit.

Looking at that list the 1st 5 x 127 that crops up seems to be rover sdi. So maybe an older rover?

Sadly not as the hole in the middle is too small for the hub !

Have you thought about contacting some of the car clubs they may hold some information.

The old Saab 96 used a 15" wheel with a bloody great hole through the middle that was covered with a chrome hub cap. Many years ago it was a struggle to find someone that had a wheel balancer with adaptors to take this. And no, it wasn't mine, my parents had one:)

A possible candidate perhaps? Can't remember how many studs it had though.

Again this is not a definitive answer but I know there were some strange size wheels fitted to caravans. In the 1960s Cheltenham caravans were fitting 15" wheels with 5 studs a 6" inch PCD and a 4 inch hole in the centre. On the one my parents had they had nice chrome caps too - almost a hemisphere.

maintenance then wheel spec.

So maybe try a caravan list eg uk.rec.caravanning or a caravan breakers - but it might be getting a bit old for that.

Alternatively could you change the hubs or use an adapter for the spare. I've seen these in caravan shops to enable a car spare to be used on the caravan.
