How do you "cancel" an action?

It seems difficult to get out of an operation in Wildfire. For example, I started a new part: Edit>Setup>Material>Define - I am prompted to "Enter material name" then I decide "No, I changed my mind I want to 'Assign'", but I can't get rid of the prompt! tried hitting the Escape button and a host of other attempts. On the dashboard there is a check mark to Accept value, but the Cancel input option is dimmed. Please help!

Please help!Often, to 'cancel' the input action, it is just necessary to hit return (or thecheck mark) at a blank line. Pro/e is not a Windows program and has never knownanything about the Esc key for cancelling. The check mark and the x are just theold actions, but gussied up with icons.David Janes
