thin protrusions

Guys,

Has anyone used thin protrusions (Feature/create/Protrusion/thin)? They don't seem to behave in the same way as a solid protrusion. I created a channel section by sketching the outer edge thus: |____| and specified a thickness.

I then wanted to create a cut through both legs. So I sketched the cut on one of the legs and specified 'through all'. Strangely, the cut only went through the far leg, but not the one I sketched on.

I could get it to go through both legs by:-

1) specifying the cut to go in both directions, or

2) offsetting the sketch plane away from the leg.

Does anyone know why I have to do these work-arounds for thin sections?

Dave

Sounds like it might have something to do with the direction of the material built from the sketched section. First thing I'd try is just to flip the direction. I'll have to see if I can duplicate this later.

Don't think I've seen this happen. Maybe a build specific bug, some variable in the way things are getting set up that makes it show up....? Sure the section sketch is on the outer face?

Yep, absolutely. And it's a simple part with the channel as the first feature, the cut as the second.

I'm clueless. If you want to email the part; I'll see what happens if I regen it in WF2 (or you could post it to mcadcentral and get the benefit of others that know more than I).

One additional thought; possibly a relatve accuracy thing; long thin part?
