A web site that does exactly what it says on the tin....

I was talking to someone about how difficult it is to buy from a web site nowadays. So many people have missed the point. As a web designer I was told you should be able to buy something from a site in three clicks.

At last I found a site that allowed me to do this. It's called

formatting link
and even if you don't buy anything it's worth taking a look to see how functionality wins over looks every time.

I know some of the pages aren't up yet but from the update page you can see things are actually being updated - wow what a concept :)

To prove what I mean, I asked my 11 year old son to add some rotor head links for my Hummingbird V3 Helicopter to the shopping basket and he managed to so easily it was a pleasure to watch.

Umm, your email addy is ' snipped-for-privacy@modelbits.com', so either you're very forgetful of which domains you own / create, or this is an ad for modelbits, not a customer writeup...

See first comments about ownership. I think you forgot to sustitute the words "to test the site I created," for "To prove what I mean,".

If it's an ad, please make it clear it's an ad for your site. You'd lose an awful lot less respect that way.

BTW, you also forgot the 'rockets' section - why advertise on RMR if you don't sell rockets?

Nice looking site though.

Hi Graham,

I think I dropped one slightly here :( Should have checked my e-mail address before posting. I didn't mean to offend just trying a little site promotion.

It was true about my son though and hopefully all purchases on the site should be completed within 3-4 clicks. (Well that's what I'm aiming for).

Thanks for taking the time to write.

Best regards,

Nigel.

I'm glad you liked the site :)

Thanks

Excellent - look forward to seeing the range :-) Really nice design, and as you say, clear and easy to navigate.

You might consider using an active script such as PHP for the menu generator. That way any section that is currently out of service can be disconnected in one place (greyed out, for instance) and the visitors won't be so frustrated with clicking on links that go nowhere.

As an Old Fart I would also appreciate a slightly larger font, or just using the default font size I set in my browser. There is no reason at all to make the font size so tiny if the bulk of the page is whitespace anyway.

Also, consider having your text flow around the product images. There is a lot of totally wasted whitespace surrounding the images that could be used to increase data density on the pages by inserting text there.

You have a nice start to a commercial web site, but you need to do a lot of research on user interface design and web usability studies. This stuff is all available through Google searches.
