Recently I purchased some 9/32" aluminum tubing at Hobby Lobby to use for 1/4" launch lugs. I figure if I rough the surface & use some 30 minute epoxy, they should hold to the body tube. Anybody else tried this? DR

Yup, worked for me. I also had one pop off too easily. I would also suggest in addition to roughing it up a bit that you also clean it off completely with acetone or another super duper killer toxic chemical. Toluene or MEK come to mind.

I've been doing this for years and it works very well. I've had a couple of lugs get dented in hard landings, but I've never had a problem with the lugs coming off.

A lot of kits use brass tubing for launch lugs. I would think brass might be a little less likely to dent or cush than aluminum.

One word of advice. 9/32 od will have an ID of 1/4". The end result is that if ANY crud is either in the lug or on the rod, it will bind. Go one size larger so the rocket slides freely on the rod. I saw some examples of this with the TARC folks. Since it was last minute, tye had to launch 1.5# rockets from a 3/16x3' rod, and it was NOT a good idea.

Wither works fine. But go one size larger to prevent binding.

You can always just use a bigger motor!

Epoxy doesn't bond well to aluminum. Extremely clean as described above plus some degree of mechanical interlock.

Which is why I recommend epoxy over grease on critical delays in expensive rockets using marginal RCS-AT reloads.

Thanks to all the suggestions. I may try putting tissue over part of the lug & coat it with epoxy to help secure it. DR
Never tried them before. I'd have to get a rail pad. My rockets are just model or mid power. It's something to consider in the future. Thanks for the suggestion. DR

I can't tell you then number of things it's fixed though the biggest cost savers were the vacuum cleaner and the pool pump.

Here's one for ya... The plastic fresh-air impeller on my furnace broke. The "D" hole on the plastic impeller cracked and rounded so the motor couldn't spin it. It was going to be two weeks to get the new impeller in, so I just glued it to the shaft with JB Weld. I was going to change it out when the repair failed. That was 6 years ago!!!! It's still going!
